Hon. Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday sentenced seven internet fraudsters in a matter brought before it by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The convicts are among the 93 suspected fraudsters arrested during a sting operation carried out on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at a hotel within the premises of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Presidential Library, OOPL, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Those convicted are: Azeez Aliu Olalekan, Tijani Babatunde, David Damilola, and Ogun Muyiwa. Others are Agada Prosper Osinakachukwu, Awwal Mashood, Amusa Wareez Oluwatobi, and Olujimi Damilola.
The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday on separate charges bordering on impersonation, identity, and internet fraud.
The court read the charge against each of the suspects.
“They each pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charges preferred against them”, quoted a statement issued by the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale.
The Judge, given the defendants’ guilty pleas and evidence tendered by the prosecution, found them guilty and convicted them accordingly.
Also, the court ordered that their mobile phone devices (iPhones) recovered from them be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
