AIG Maritime Hosts New Apapa Customs Boss, Advocates Stronger Port Collaboration

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, has hosted the newly appointed Customs Area Controller for the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Murtala Muazu, during a high-profile courtesy visit held at the Force Headquarters Annex in Kam Salem House, Obalende, Lagos.

The meeting served as a strategic platform for both agencies to reinforce their alliance and align operations for enhanced port security.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Adebayo Rasheed Adesayo, both heads of agency committed to tightening security loops around Nigeria’s premier maritime gateways.

During the session, Comptroller Muazu commended the Nigeria Police Force for its steadfast role in protecting lives and assets across the maritime domain. Stepping into his new role, the Customs boss noted that initiating a solidarity visit to the Maritime Police was a top priority for his administration.

He emphasized that a seamless, highly secure port ecosystem is critical to cutting down illicit activities, facilitating legitimate trade, and maximizing national revenue.

Responding to the gesture, AIG Nurat congratulated Comptroller Muazu on his new assignment and pledged the unwavering support of the Maritime Police Command. She noted that cementing ties with sister agencies remains a top priority, directly advancing the strategic vision of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for modernized policing and economic security.

The AIG highlighted that because the Nigeria Customs Service sits at the front line of port operations, seamless intelligence sharing is critical. She noted that rapid information exchange and joint operational backing during investigations are the ultimate weapons needed to crush maritime criminality, protect national economic assets, and clear the path for frictionless trade.

The high-level engagement wrapped up with an exchange of corporate plaques and an official group photograph, followed by a brief tour of the Police Mini Museum housed within the Kam Salem House Annex. The historic meeting leaves both the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force tightly aligned, setting a new benchmark for inter-agency synergy, ironclad port security, and trade facilitation.
