In a major boost to the welfare of Nigerian troops, President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for the country’s Armed Forces personnel.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that military personnel will receive a substantial salary increment ranging from 30 to 80 per cent
This newly approved deal will positively impact about 250,000 personnel, taking full effect from September 1.
Under the newly approved arrangement, top-tier military brass above the rank of Colonel—including Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals—will enjoy a 30 per cent salary increase.
Middle-tier personnel from Colonel down to Warrant Officer will see a 50 per cent bump, while the frontline ranks, spanning Private to Staff Sergeant—will enjoy the highest surge at 80 per cent.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the troops, the statement emphasized: “The men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated in the course of their duties to our nation”
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to defense forces, the President asserted: “Our administration will continue to prioritise troop welfare and modernise the armed forces by providing the weapons and technological tools needed to discharge their duties.”

He further noted that national prosperity is intrinsically linked to peace and stability, stating: “Our administration believes that no nation can achieve greatness without security. We therefore remain resolute in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets to eliminate security threats and protect the lives and property of all Nigerians.”

Issuing a direct rallying cry to the frontline, the Commander-in-Chief added: “I urge our servicemen to take our gesture as a sign of our deep appreciation of the services they render to our fatherland. Together we shall prevail over the enemies intent on destroying the fabric of our nation.”
This sweeping financial package comes just days after the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), hinted on July 27 that President Tinubu was on the verge of unveiling a major upward salary review for Nigerian soldiers.
