In recognition of a stellar career and unwavering dedication, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Executive Secretary/CEO, Akutah Pius Akutah, Esq, MON, FCILT, Ph.D, was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement and Impact Award by his alma mater’s National Alumni (NSUK). This prestigious honor, presented in Abuja on April 25, 2026, marks yet another milestone in his journey of visionary leadership and national impact.

Coinciding with the university’s 25th anniversary, the ceremony paid tribute to the vision of its founder and the first Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Abdullahi Adamu, CON.
At the helm of the event, the NSC boss, Dr. Pius Akutah, underscored Nasarawa State’s role as a strategic hub, seamlessly connecting diverse minds from the Federal Capital Territory and beyond. Championing a vision of excellence, he called for transformative investments to cement NSUK’s status as a premier citadel of learning.
He noted that the recent commissioning of the Secretariat marks a significant milestone for the institution. Emphasizing this new chapter, he urged the alumni to actively invest in further elevating the university’s standards.
Dr. Akutah further expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, and the faculty for their immense support throughout his studies, despite the unavoidable challenges encountered.
As previously highlighted by Sooth News during our coverage of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary on Saturday, April 11, 2026—where Dr. Akutah was formally conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in International Criminal Cooperation Law—we documented the achievement under the headline:
“Doctoral Milestone for Shippers’ Council Chief, Akutah: Charting a Sooth Course for Port Efficiency, Equitable Justice, and Effective Governance”
Dr. Akutah’s doctorate was a “journey seven years in the making,” as he shared with The Shipper News crew, describing the convocation as the ultimate reward for his unwavering perseverance. Although he had met all academic requirements as far back as 2024, the Shippers’ Council chief viewed the official conferment as the definitive and powerful crowning achievement of his doctoral pursuit.
” As a teacher of International Criminal Law, I have trained lawyers, prosecutors, and judges in different jurisdictions around the world. Pursuing a PhD is just a way forward for me towards the journey of what I love,” he stated.
“It is very important for everyone because as long as you don’t stop living, you have to continue learning. So, for someone who wants to prepare himself for tomorrow’s leadership, you have to continue to educate yourself,” he noted.

Joining Dr. Akutah as honorees were several distinguished figures, including the university’s founder, Senator (Dr.) Abdullahi Adamu, CON; the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman; the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Dr. Labaran Magaji, SAN; and Hon. Justice Ibrahim M. Buba of the Federal High Court.
