Bloodshed Averted: Troops Foil Terrorist Incursion in Plateau; Two Injured

“Bloodshed was narrowly averted in Plateau State as troops from OPEP Sector 9 intercepted a terrorist incursion in Shendam LGA. Following a high-stakes distress call near the Yelwa cattle market, the Nigerian Army’s rapid response forced the gunmen into retreat, though two residents are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained in the crossfire.

As reported by Zagazola Makama, security forces responded to a 7:30 a.m. distress call Friday along the Yelwa cattle market axis. The intervention followed reports of sporadic shooting by suspected insurgents in the Lake Chad region focal point.

Following a rapid response, troops forced the insurgents to flee into the nearby bushes. Sources indicate the attackers retreated immediately upon sighting the advancing military units.

During a sweep of the area, troops rescued two civilians caught in the crossfire. Both victims, found with gunshot injuries, were immediately identified for medical attention.

While the injured are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, a manhunt is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The region remains on edge following a brutal massacre in Jos North’s Angwan Rukuba district last week, which left 28 dead and sent shockwaves through neighboring communities. In the wake of that violence, the state government moved to stabilize the area with a 48-hour curfew.

Addressing the cycle of violence, President Bola Tinubu personally reassured victims’ families during a visit on Thursday. Pledging a shift in security, the President vowed: “I console you and promise you that this experience will not happen again.
