Operations at MMIA’s temporary Terminal 3 were momentarily halted this Wednesday after an electrical spark triggered swift safety measures from FAAN. The Authority acted quickly to contain the incident, ensuring the facility was secure before resuming normal service.
FAAN reported that an electrical spark broke out in an operational office around 2:05 PM, triggering smoke that was quickly addressed by onsite teams.
However, technical teams are working around the clock on electrical upgrades to guarantee optimal service once Terminal 3 reopens. To minimize travel disruptions, all scheduled flights have been seamlessly rerouted to Terminal 2.
Situation contained: FAAN’s expert ARFFS team jumped into action today, promptly neutralizing the incident and ensuring continued safety across the terminal.
Just weeks after a February fire hamperedy airport operations, this new development raises fresh concerns over site safety and continuity.
FAAN CEO Olubunmi Kuku confirmed that initial findings point to a ground-floor origin for the Terminal 1 fire. The blaze, starting near office and restaurant spaces, eventually reached the building’s roof.
Kuku confirmed that while some injuries occurred, there were thankfully no lives lost.
