Milestone for Bauchi Youths as Govt, UNFPA Validate Comprehensive Youth Policy

By: Bashir Hassan Abubakar

Bauchi State has recorded a major breakthrough in youth development as the State Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), successfully reviewed and validated the draft Bauchi State Youth Policy.

The validated policy, described as a significant milestone, now provides a definitive, inclusive and sustainable framework for all youth-related interventions and programming in the state.

Aligned with the Bauchi State Development Plan and UNFPA’s 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, the framework is designed to empower adolescents and young people to achieve their full potential.

The validation was achieved during a two-day stakeholders’ review meeting that brought together youth-led organizations, faith-based organizations, persons with disabilities, security agencies, academia, international organizations, NYSC, tertiary institution students, private sector, civil society organizations, relevant government ministries and the media, strengthening institutional accountability and local ownership.

The journey to this success began in October 2024 when UNFPA supported extensive consultations across all 20 Local Government Areas of the state, engaging diverse youth groups and stakeholders including persons with disabilities. The inputs were consolidated during a drafting workshop in October 2025 and finally reviewed in 2026.

Our Correspondent reports that, with the formalizing the policy, the Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based, sustainable youth development and meaningful participation, positioning its youthful population as a key driver of the state’s overall development.
