Bauchi LGAs Pledge N10m Each to Tackle Child Malnutrition

Local Government Chairmen in Bauchi State have pledged to contribute N10 million each to a Child Nutrition Fund and to recruit at least 20 health service volunteers per LGA to boost results for children’s health in the state.

The resolution was contained in a communique issued at the end of a two-day advocacy meeting on Investing in Results for Children, held from October 12 to 13, 2026 at Crispan Suite and Event Centre, Jos.

The meeting was organized by the Bauchi State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and UNICEF Bauchi Field Office.

According to the communique jointly signed by the ALGON Chairman, Commissioners for Local Government and Budget, and the Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, the chairmen also agreed to strengthen Local Government Committees on Food and Nutrition in line with the N774 Initiative, step down the Primary Healthcare Task Force under each chairman, renovate water and sanitation facilities, drive school enrolment through councillors, and enforce accountability against aid diversion.

Other resolutions include construction of solar-powered boreholes with partners, provision of public toilets to end open defecation, household mobilization by nutrition officers, adoption of the Jigawa MASAKI model, and a joint household survey to close LGA data gaps — with each LGA contributing N7m after the 2027 elections, alongside N50m from UNICEF and N60m from the state government.
