The Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Professor Fatimah Tahir, has said universities must go beyond awarding degrees to equipping students with skills, knowledge and confidence for meaningful societal impact.

She made this known at a Career Service Training for 1,000 students from the Gadau and Yuli campuses, organised by the university’s Directorate of Human Resource and Career Development in collaboration with TETFund and AWS Global Technology. The programme, themed “From Campus to Career: Employability Skills Training Programme,” focused on career readiness, internships and labour market transition.
Professor Tahir urged students to plan their careers early, highlighting résumé writing, interview skills, self-awareness and networking. She said the university is committed to producing graduates who can contribute to economic growth, create jobs and compete globally.
“Our responsibility is to nurture graduates who possess the knowledge, skills, values and confidence to contribute meaningfully to society and compete in an ever-evolving global economy,” she said.
She commended the organisers and thanked TETFund for supporting the initiative.
Earlier, Dr Wasilu Suleiman said the training bridges the gap between classroom learning and workplace demands, noting the need for soft skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving.
A total of 1,000 students participated—500 each from the Gadau and Yuli campuses.
