Heads Up, Lagosians! Key Roads to Close Ahead of State Inauguration

Ahead of the inauguration of key infrastructure projects, the Lagos State Government on Tuesday cautioned motorists about partial road closures scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9. Commuters are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid delays during these high-profile commissioning events.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos. He emphasized that these temporary road closures are essential to ensuring public safety and maintaining a seamless environment for the scheduled proceedings.

“Motorists are advised to plan their movement and avoid the affected corridors during the designated times to minimise traffic disruptions and travel delays.

“On Wednesday, April 8, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be inaugurated between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m.

“This event will affect motorists in the Opebi-Allen, Ikeja and Ojota areas.”

Scheduled for Thursday, April 9, the day’s program features two major inaugurations spanning the morning and afternoon, specifically between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

“The first event is the inauguration of Tolu Schools Complex, which will affect traffic in the Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle areas.

“Later the same evening, from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m, another event will take place at Eko Hotel in Victoria Island,” the commissioner said.

The statement advises motorists traveling through these corridors during the specified hours to utilize alternative routes to bypass congestion and ensure timely arrivals. Specifically, those within the Victoria Island axis are encouraged to avoid the area or exercise patience, as potential delays are expected.

To mitigate disruptions, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and designated enforcement personnel will be strategically deployed to all affected areas to manage traffic and assist commuters.

The Commissioner urged the public to cooperate fully with traffic officials and adhere to all directives to facilitate seamless movement.

‘The Lagos State Government appreciates the patience, cooperation, and understanding of all road users during these landmark events,’ he stated.
