The Federal Ministry of Education has imposed an immediate ban on student transfers into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) classes across all public and private secondary schools nationwide, effective from the 2026/2027 academic year.
This major policy shift was officially communicated in a statement released on Sunday, December 14, signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
The new policy is believed to be a crucial step in addressing the “increasing incidence of examination malpractice” that continues to undermine the integrity of Nigeria’s education system, ultimately aiming to restore public confidence in the national examinations.
The Ministry’s image maker, Boriowo Folasade, further clarified that the directive was necessitated by the growing zeal for “so-called special centres” during external examinations.
The statement maintained that effective from the 2026/2027 academic session, admissions and transfers will be strictly limited to SS1 and SS2 classes only.
She added that the measure is aimed at “discouraging last-minute movement of students for examination-related advantages.” This directive is also expected to ensure proper academic monitoring and promote continuity in teaching and learning.
However, the Ministry has mandated full compliance from school administrators nationwide. Any violation, they warned, will attract severe sanctions in line with existing education regulations and guidelines.
