The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of two dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the Service to commit fraud.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the DSS said the two individuals, who were previously dismissed from the agency, had been impersonating the Service to engage in fraudulent activities. The statement clarified that the DSS had recently issued public disclaimers on the two dismissed personnel, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who were allegedly using their former affiliation for deceitful purposes.
The DSS reports that the suspects have been arrested and will be charged for their actions.
The agency further revealed that it plans to make public the identities of other previously dismissed officers to protect unsuspecting members of the public from falling prey to similar schemes.
“The Service has further resolved to publish the names of other personnel who were dismissed in the past, to prevent citizens from falling victim to possible criminal intent of any of these individuals,” the statement added.
A notice of disclaimer shared on its official X handle, the DSS advised the public to refrain from any dealings with Donald, who is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities.
In a public disclaimer posted on the Service’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, the DSS warned that Godwin has been engaging in unscrupulous acts under false pretences of representing the agency.
The Service urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid any dealings with Godwin or anyone claiming affiliation with the Service without proper verification.
