NYSC Abduction: University Don Philip Olusola Commends Security Efforts, Proffers 7 Rescue Strategies

A university don, Dr. Philip B. Olusola of the Lead City University, Ibadan has said, “The ongoing coordinated efforts by the Nigerian Army, the Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to rescue the abducted prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members are highly commendable.”

“However, given the reported identification of the kidnappers’ hideout and the potential threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a more specialized approach is critical to ensuring a successful operation.”

Dr. Olusola disclosed this to Sooth News on Sunday, 4 October 2026. While acknowledging the bravery of the security agencies, the academic proffered a strategic seven-point blueprint designed to navigate the high-stakes rescue mission safely.

The seven strategies outlined by the don include:

  • Deploy Specialist EOD Units: Counter-IED and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel must be deployed before any ground assault. The safety of the hostages must remain the overriding priority.
  • Sustain Aerial Surveillance: Security agencies need to maintain intensive drone and aerial surveillance to continuously monitor the hideout and any movements around the perimeter.
  • Integrate Intelligence Streams: All available data—including phone communications, ransom contacts, electronic surveillance, and local human intelligence—must be fused to map out the safest rescue window.
  • Leverage International Support: Where necessary, Nigeria should discreetly seek technical intelligence and specialist support from trusted global partners like the US, UK, or Israel, particularly for satellite imagery and advanced signals intelligence.
  • Maintain Negotiation Channels: A controlled line of communication should be kept open with the captors to establish proof of life, gather actionable intelligence, or facilitate a safe release.
  • Call for Divine Intervention: Faith communities across the nation are urged to intensify fervent prayers for divine tracking and spiritual guidance for the search teams.
  • Enforce Strict Operational Secrecy: Operational security is paramount. Details regarding troop movements, tactical plans, and the exact location must be kept entirely out of the public domain.

Concluding his advisory, Dr. Olusola emphasized that the current situation requires a delicate balance of swiftness and caution:

“This is a high-stakes situation where speed is important, but speed must be matched with absolute precision and seamless coordination. The ultimate objective must be to bring every single one of these young Nigerians home alive.”

The abduction of the prospective corps members has triggered widespread concern across Nigeria, casting a sharp spotlight on the persistent security vulnerabilities faced by citizens traveling across major highways. While security agencies have intensified grid operations and intelligence tracking in the region, public anxiety remains high as families await the safe return of the youths. Security analysts note that a successful resolution of this high-profile operation could establish a critical tactical precedent for addressing subsequent kidnapping threats nationwide.
