Bauchi Governor Commissions N3.4bn Yankari Upgrade, Pushes for Tourism-Driven Economic Growth

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has officially commissioned a comprehensive N3.4 billion infrastructural overhaul of the iconic Yankari Game Reserve, featuring a modern solar electrification grid, upgraded executive chalets, and enhanced water supply facilities.

The projects include a N2.69 billion solar electrification system to power the resort, chalets and pathways, N166 million for the renovation of chalets and executive accommodations to modern hospitality standards, and N110 million for water supply and recirculation facilities. Mohammed said the solar system will provide cleaner, more reliable electricity and reduce the resort’s environmental footprint.

Speaking at the historic event on Tuesday, the Governor emphasized that treating tourism as a serious economic driver is central to his administration’s diversification agenda, noting that the strategic investments—partially funded by the Federal Government’s Natural Resources Fund aim to boost local enterprises, create youth employment, and position the state as a premier global destination.

Beyond the hospitality and power upgrades at the resort, Governor Mohammed highlighted the administration’s broader developmental strides across solid minerals, agricultural revitalization, and environmental mitigation, while earnestly appealing for further federal intervention to protect roughly 1,800 climate-vulnerable communities from natural flooding.

While urging host communities and stakeholders to take collective ownership of the new assets against vandalism, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a resilient, prosperous, and secure economic future for the people of Bauchi State.
