The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, has pledged an unyielding commitment to transparency, professional ethics, and active stakeholder collaboration across Nigeria’s territorial waters.

According to a statement released on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Adebayo Rasheed Adesayo, the AIG gave the assurance during a strategic working meeting with a delegation from the Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), South-West Zone, led by its Chairman, Mr. Joseph Ajoku, at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos.
Addressing the delegation, AIG Nurat emphasised that strict accountability, professionalism, and unwavering respect for due process remain the core pillars anchoring the Command’s day-to-day operations. She further guaranteed that the police are fully prepared to continuously audit operational workflows, fortify internal discipline, and decisively address legitimate operational grievances routed through the right channels.

To secure the maritime domain, the AIG actively rallied IMAN and broader industry players for closer synergy. She specifically called for real-time sharing of actionable intelligence and constructive feedback to advance intelligence-led policing, preempt criminal syndicates, and significantly upgrade the security architecture within Nigeria’s bustling port environments.
In response, IMAN South-West Chairman, Mr. Joseph Ajoku, commended the AIG for opening direct channels of communication and dialogue. He declared the association’s total readiness to partner with the Maritime Police Command to foster a secure, transparent, and seamless port ecosystem that drives legitimate trade.

Under the leadership of AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, the Maritime Police Command continues to solidify its alliances across the maritime ecosystem, driving professional, transparent, and intelligence-backed policing to protect national security and fuel economic growth.
