Pivot from Job Seekers to Wealth Creators, Gov Eno Urges Corpers

In an era where corporate vacancies are shrinking globally, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has delivered a refreshing and realistic blueprint for graduate self-reliance.

Speaking at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Uyo through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, the Governor challenged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to pivot from job seekers to wealth creators.

The Power of Self-Reliance:
Governor Eno did not mince words about Nigeria’s current economic climate, noting that a booming population competing for limited corporate slots makes self-employment the most viable path to financial freedom. “Today, being an employer of labour, an entrepreneur pays better than a white-collar job,” Eno stated. Rather than viewing this as a limitation, the Governor framed it as an immense opportunity, strongly advocating for the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program as an incubator for the next generation of Nigerian business moguls.

Leading by Example:
What sets Governor Eno’s charge apart from typical political rhetoric is his own track record. As a seasoned entrepreneur who successfully built businesses and employed thousands of citizens long before entering politics, his advice carries the weight of practical experience rather than mere theory. His administration backed this visionary stance by reinforcing its commitment to creating a highly secure, enabling environment and offering robust welfare support to ensure businesses started by youth in Akwa Ibom can thrive.

Celebrating Excellence:
Proving that the state is a fertile ground for youth impact, the Governor celebrated Odinakachi Kelechi, a corps member who recently clinched the Akwa Ibom State Award for Excellence for outstanding community development service in Okobo. Governor Eno pointed to this milestone as proof that dedication, combined with an entrepreneurial mindset, yields undeniable rewards. He urged employers across the state to actively mentor these young minds, turning the service year into a launchpad for national economic transformation.
