Due to escalating security concerns, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has blacklisted three local government areas in Kebbi State—Augie, Arewa, and Sakaba—from receiving corps members. Consequently, the scheme has requested to permanently relocate its orientation camp from Dakingari to a more secure region of the state.
Bala Dabo Kagarko, NYSC Coordinator for Kebbi State, confirmed the move at Jega LGA’s Basaura temporary camp.
“For the safety of corps members, we are no longer posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state,” he said.

“We no longer have enough doctors to post to state hospitals, and there are not enough corps members to deploy to schools and other areas where they are needed to contribute to development.
“Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country. Several appeals have been made to the appropriate authorities, but we are yet to receive a response.”
The NYSC’s decision underscores a volatile spike in regional terrorism and banditry. A grim reminder occurred last week when suspected Lakurawa terrorists raided Fasken Rafi village in Arewa LGA—one of the newly blacklisted zones—killing at least 20 residents.
