Ramadan Relief: Bauchi Begins Statewide Food Distribution

By Bashir Hassan Abubakar

The Bauchi State Government has commenced the distribution of assorted food grains to residents as part of its 2026 Ramadan palliative programme aimed at cushioning economic hardship during the holy month.

The exercise, which covers beneficiaries across the 20 local government areas of the state, also extends support to religious organisations and other vulnerable groups.

The distribution was officially flagged off by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, whose ministry has coordinated the intervention for the past three years.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner disclosed that each local government area received a trailer load of assorted food items, including rice, maize, millet, sugar and sorghum.

She explained that the intervention was approved by Governor Bala Mohammed to provide relief for citizens during Ramadan and the forthcoming Sallah celebration.

She emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in the distribution process, urging community and religious leaders to ensure the items reach the intended beneficiaries at the grassroots level. She reminded stakeholders that accountability remains key in delivering the government’s goodwill to the people.

Both LG Chairmen and other beneficiary bodie like Jama’atu Nasril Islam and Christian Association of Nigeria commended the state government for the gesture and pledged their cooperation to ensure successful distribution.

Our correspondent reports that, a total of 25,535 bags of 25kg rice, 25,539 bags of maize, 11,970 bags of millet, 16,751 bags of sorghum and 5,000 bags of sugar are being distributed under the programme.
