Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called for urgent federal intervention following a deadly bandit attack on communities in Kafin Duguri, Bauchi State.
The Governor made the appeal during a sympathy visit to the affected area, where several residents were killed and others injured after suspected bandits invaded the community.
Addressing grieving residents, Governor Mohammed said security agencies require improved weapons, logistics and operational support to effectively confront the rising security threats. He disclosed that he had briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during an official visit to Abuja, noting that the President conveyed his condolences to the affected families and assured of federal assistance as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The Governor commended the courage and resilience of the Kafin Duguri people, stating that their resistance forced the attackers to retreat. He described the community as deeply rooted in its ancestral heritage, with farming serving as the primary source of livelihood, and assured residents that government would not allow criminal elements to displace them from their land.
While noting that banditry has been largely contained in other parts of the state, Governor Mohammed stressed that efforts would be intensified to restore lasting peace in Duguri and surrounding communities. He announced plans to recruit and train additional local vigilantes in collaboration with the police to strengthen grassroots security architecture.
The Bauchi State Government, he said, has taken full responsibility for the medical treatment of injured victims. The Governor offered prayers for those who lost their lives and urged residents to remain united and cooperate with security agencies.
Earlier, the Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, appreciated the Governor’s visit and appealed for sustained security presence to prevent future attacks and guarantee lasting peace.
