The tragic incident occurred in Gumbi village, Gumbi Ward of Yauri LGA, when a boat carrying wedding guests capsized. The victims had just accompanied a bride to her husband’s home in Gwarzo village, Ngaski LGA, and were returning home when the disaster struck, plunging over 100 passengers into the water. Sadly, 14 people—13 women and one child—lost their lives.
Governor Nasir Idris, who attended the funeral prayers, extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the local government, the emirate, and the people of Yauri. He called on all to accept the will of God with faith and resilience.
Represented by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Abubakar Shu’aibu, the governor prayed for divine forgiveness for the deceased and asked that they be granted Jannatul Firdaus.
“I urge you to accept this in good faith, knowing that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator. God does as He wills, at the time He chooses, and no one has the right to question Him,” he emphasized.
The bodies of the victims have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of boat accidents along this axis, raising urgent concerns about river safety and the need for stricter measures to prevent future tragedies.
