The Federal Government has confirmed that it will, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), provide the necessary support to victims’ families and survivors of the Borgu boat mishap in Niger.

This was contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Mohammed Idris the Hon. Minister of Information and National Orientation, where he said the government received the sad news with a heavy heart.

According to Idris, the tragedy is particularly painful, coming barely four months after devastating floods wreaked havoc in Mokwa, also in Niger.
“We extend our deepest condolences to families of the victims, government, and the people of Niger State. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
Thirty-two lives were lost in the boat mishap which occurred on Tuesday with about 50 people rescued.
