A major disaster was narrowly averted on Friday, October 9, 2026 at the PWD railway crossing inward Oshodi, Lagos, when a moving passenger train slammed into a Honda Accord car navigating the tracks.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that its elite Eagle Response Team, stationed at Cappa, was immediately scrambled to the scene following a high-priority distress call received at exactly 7:07 AM.

The train was bound for Oshodi from Ikeja when it struck the passenger side of the sedan.
LASEMA emergency responders disclosed that the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, survived the high-impact collision. The motorist sustained injuries and was stabilized at the crash site by the agency’s pre-hospital paramedics before transport. No fatalities were recorded in the incident.
To prevent a secondary disaster, LASEMA officials, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force, cordoned off the high-risk zone and executed immediate traffic diversion measures to restore calm to the gridlocked corridor.
Recovery teams managed the wreckage on the tracks while awaiting a heavy-duty towing vehicle to clear the crushed sedan and restore normal rail operations.
Reacting to the incident, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to exercise absolute caution at all active rail corridors. He emphasized the critical need to obey automated traffic signals and respect safety boundary guidelines.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu further advised Lagos residents to remain vigilant and utilize the state’s toll-free emergency lines, 767 and 112, for immediate response deployment.
