Captivity Ends: Abducted Kebbi Judge Faruku Bunza Freed

Hon. Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has returned home safely, ending a harrowing one-week ordeal in the custody of gunmen.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.

According to the command, both the judge’s family and the state Ministry of Justice have officially verified his safe return.

While the kidnappers demanded a ransom for his release, the Command firmly maintained its strict policy against funding criminals.

Instead, police authorities have intensified tactical investigations to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

In its quest to track the syndicate, the Command appealed to the public for actionable intelligence, promising absolute confidentiality for any whistleblowers.

The police also extended deep appreciation to local residents and sister security agencies for their unwavering support throughout the high-stakes ordeal.

An insider at the judge’s family home confirmed his arrival a few hours ago, sparking immense relief.

“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative said.

“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member stated.

The insider added that specific logistics surrounding the release remain under wraps for now.

“Other details of how he was released will be made available later,” he added.
