Two Bauchi-based Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Alheri YS Foundation and Wunti Alkhair Foundation, have commemorated the 2026 World Hepatitis Day by providing free hepatitis screening and vaccination services to residents of Tihrum and Miri Communities in Bauchi Local Government Area.

The outreach formed part of activities marking the global observance of World Hepatitis Day and was aimed at raising awareness about viral hepatitis, promoting early detection, expanding access to preventive healthcare, and supporting global efforts to eliminate the disease.
The initiative particularly targeted underserved and vulnerable members of the communities who often face barriers to essential healthcare services.

Speaking during the exercise, the organisers expressed appreciation to the traditional leadership and residents of two Communities for their enthusiastic participation and support, describing the impressive turnout as a reflection of growing public awareness about the importance of preventive healthcare.
They also emphasised the need to remove social, financial, and systemic barriers that limit access to hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, urging governments, development partners, and stakeholders to strengthen efforts towards achieving equitable healthcare for all.
World Hepatitis Day is observed annually on 28 July to raise global awareness of viral hepatitis and to encourage increased action towards preventing, diagnosing, and treating the disease.
The theme for the 2026 commemoration is “Let’s Break It Down,” highlighting the need to break down the barriers that hinder progress in the fight against hepatitis.
