In a fierce defense of national security, joint forces from Operation Hadin Kai and the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) have crushed an ISWAP plot to kidnap students from the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State.
The decisive interception halted what could have been a catastrophic mass abduction.
Detailing the battlefield breakthrough in a Sunday press briefing, Operation Hadin Kai’s acting military information officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed that joint security forces successfully evacuated 46 students to safety during the chaotic firefight.
The assault commenced under the cover of darkness at 1:30 a.m., with military dispatches indicating that the terrorists relied heavily on local saboteurs to bypass early security checkpoints.
According to Goni, the FGGC compound had been repurposed by the Borno State Government to offer makeshift residential lodging for students enrolled at the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.
While mass captivity was averted, the chaotic retreat turned deadly when fleeing fighters fired indiscriminate volleys, leaving some students dead from stray projectile wounds.
Security officials are still cross-referencing campus manifests, leaving it temporarily unconfirmed if the affected students are primary scholars of FGGC Monguno or co-located students from the polytechnic.
“Alert security personnel immediately engaged the terrorists with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, effectively stalling their advance with Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force (QRF) immediately reinforcing the school,” the statement reads in part.
“Confronted by the superior combat capability and determined resistance of the security forces, the terrorists were forced to abandon their criminal mission and flee in confusion without achieving their objective.
”During the encounter, parts of the school infrastructure sustained damage, but the attempt was well contained by troops in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force personnel.”
