Borno: ISWAP Operative Captured as Troops Intensify Counter-Insurgency Drive

In a major blow to frontline insurgent logistics, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have apprehended a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operative attempting to infiltrate Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

A routine security patrol near the Cashew Plantation area took a critical turn at 6:47 p.m. on July 14. According to intelligence tracking by counter-insurgency platform Zagazola Makama, troops executing a sweep of the perimeter intercepted the suspect as dusk fell.

Faced with immediate military interrogation, the suspect’s civilian disguise quickly dissolved. He confessed to being a trained ISWAP operative originating from Warabe in the Pulka axis of Gwoza LGA, claiming his presence at the military baseline was a calculated move to lay down his arms.

“The suspect further disclosed that he had dumped his AK-47 rifle in a river before making contact with the troops,” Makama said.

“He also allegedly admitted to participating in three separate attacks on Delwa alongside other members of the terrorist group.

“Items recovered from the suspect included one bicycle, one cutlass, one bicycle repair solution, one bicycle pump, one spoon, and ₦6,500 in cash.”

The suspect remains in military custody, where specialized interrogators are extracting actionable intelligence to bolster ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the theater.

According to the publication, this breakthrough underscores a dual-track military strategy: systematically dismantling active terrorist networks while keeping a clear, secure pathway open for remaining insurgents to surrender.
