Espionage Foiled: Troops Eliminate Infiltrating ISWAP Informant in Borno

Advancing their relentless campaign against terrorism and kidnapping, Nigerian troops neutralized a suspected ISWAP spy attempting to infiltrate a military defensive position in Borno State’s Konduga LGA. The proactive interception, powered by vigilant surveillance, successfully secured the frontline base and averted potential casualties.

According to Zagazola Makama, a specialized counter-insurgency publication, the incident occurred at approximately 7:45 PM on July 11. Troops monitoring surveillance cameras spotted a suspicious individual advancing toward their defensive position from the Yuwe general area of the Sambisa Forest.

“According to the sources, the suspect was believed to be an ISWAP operative conducting reconnaissance on the military position,” Makama said.

“Troops deployed in an ambush position were immediately alerted and engaged the suspect as he attempted to infiltrate the defensive location, resulting in his neutralisation.

“Military sources said the successful operation highlights the effectiveness of the deployment of surveillance technology and coordinated ground responses in detecting and eliminating terrorist threats before they can compromise troop positions.”

The military’s intensifying crackdown on espionage networks marks a critical milestone in counter-insurgency operations.

Recent successes in arresting or neutralizing suspected informants while they scout defensive lines demonstrate enhanced vigilance by troops in the Northeast. These proactive operations deserve high commendation for severely disrupting the adversary’s intelligence gathering.
