Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded all suspects linked to the multi-billion naira Ogun Forest Meth Lab.
A statement issued on Friday, July 10, by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the suspects were docked on an 11-count criminal charge.

The defendants include 63-year-old drug kingpin Anochili Innocent, three Mexican cartel experts, and six Nigerian accomplices. They are accused of constructing an industrial clandestine laboratory used to manufacture 2,419.48 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. Hidden deep within Mowe village in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, the illicit setup processed narcotics worth over N480 billion globally.

According to the official statement, the ten defendants were docked on Friday, 10th July 2026. They include the cartel’s mastermind, Anochili Innocent, 63, alongside three Mexican nationals: Juan Carlos Meza Torrero, 49; Nemecio Martinez Felix, 46; and Jesus López Valles, 40. The remaining six Nigerian accomplices are Nwankwo Sunday Christian, 41; Egwuonwu Uchenna Victor, 38; Igwe Abuchi Remijus, 43; Ifeanyichukwu Chibuike Joshua, 23; Omonughwa Kingsley Orike, 45; and Nwobum Emeka, 59. Their arraignment follows a series of highly coordinated raids executed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) across Ogun and Lagos states between May 16th and 18th, 2026.

The initial sting operation on May 16th targeted a hidden “super lab” operating deep inside the Mowe forest within the Ijebu East LGA of Ogun State. Caught directly at the manufacturing site were Nwankwo Sunday Christian, Igwe Abuchi Remijus, Ifeanyichukwu Chibuike Joshua, and Egwuonwu Uchenna Victor, alongside the three Mexican methamphetamine experts: Nemecio Martinez Felix, Jesus López Valles, and Juan Carlos Meza Torrero. Simultaneously, an NDLEA tactical team arrested the syndicate’s kingpin, Anochili Innocent, at his luxury residence located at No. 8 Tafawa Balewa Street, Golf Estate, Lakowe, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

In swift follow-up operations on Monday, 18th May 2026, NDLEA operatives stormed a second property owned by the baron at House 70, Close 3, Mayfair Estate, Lakowe, Lekki, capturing another key syndicate member, Kingsley Orike Omonughwa. That same day, investigators advanced to the residence of Emeka Nwobum, whose property served as the cartel’s strategic, high-security drug stash house.
In the 11-count charge preferred by the NDLEA prosecution team, the defendants are accused of conspiring, between February and May 16, 2026, to set up a clandestine laboratory to prepare, process, and produce methamphetamine, contrary to Section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act.

Additional counts include managing, organizing, and financing a drug trafficking network, a violation of Section 20(1)(g). The prosecution further alleges, under Section 20(1)(f), that the syndicate unlawfully transported precursor chemicals—specifically toluene, phenyl-2-propanone (P2P), phenylacetic acid, acetone, and hydrochloric acid—from Lagos to the Mowe lab using three vehicles: a Toyota Tacoma, a Mercedes-Benz marked APP 942 YL, and a Toyota Highlander marked GWA 662DJ. The final counts border on the unlawful production and possession of the seized 2,419.48kg methamphetamine shipment, contrary to Sections 11(a) and 19 of the NDLEA Act.
Furthermore, the indictment details the unlawful possession of vast quantities of raw precursor chemicals recovered directly from the laboratory site. Seized materials include 358kg of toluene, 1,834kg of hydrochloric acid, and 22.5kg of acetone, as well as various quantities of P2P and phenylacetic acid. These actions are cited as separate offenses contrary to Section 20(1)(e) of the NDLEA Act.

In a count tailored exclusively for the kingpin, the NDLEA charged Anochili Innocent separately under Section 12 of the NDLEA Act. Identified by the agency as the outright owner of the fenced expanse of land housing the super lab, he faces distinct prosecution for unlawfully allowing his private property to be weaponized for illicit drug production.
All ten defendants entered “not guilty” pleas as the charges were read out before Justice Kakaki. Seeking a swift trial, the prosecution immediately called seven witnesses to the stand, having already served the defense with the proof of evidence on July 3, 2026. However, the defense counsel objected, arguing they needed more time to review the materials.

Consequently, the court ordered that all ten defendants be remanded at the Lagos Correctional Centre. Justice Kakaki subsequently adjourned the matter to July 16 and 22, 2026, for the commencement of trial and the hearing of the bail applications.
Reacting to the arraignment, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), declared the case a historic victory. He stated that it represents one of the most significant dismantlings of an industrial-scale narcotics operation on Nigerian soil, underscoring the increasingly transnational character of drug trafficking networks now desperate to exploit Nigeria as a manufacturing base for onward export.
“The presence of Mexican nationals among those arrested and arraigned today speaks to the alarming reach of international drug cartels now attempting to entrench themselves in Nigeria, but the Agency will not relent in tracking down and dismantling every such network, no matter how well concealed or well-financed”, Marwa stated.

He reiterated the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to crushing drug cartels and hunting down their local collaborators. He urged the public to keep providing actionable intelligence, stressing that community vigilance remains vital to sustaining the agency’s nationwide offensive.
