Scam Alert: NDLEA Denounces Fake Auction Schemes Using Officials’ Identities

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) hereby alerts the public to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by scammers targeting unsuspecting individuals.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. The agency revealed that scammers have been exploiting the names of top officials—particularly the Secretary to the Agency, Barrister Shadrach Haruna—to circulate fraudulent letters and private messages offering forfeited vehicles at discounted auction prices.

In view of this deceptive intent, the public is hereby notified that these offers are entirely fraudulent. The Agency categorically states that these schemes are malicious gimmicks designed solely to defraud targeted individuals of their hard-earned money.

Furthermore, no official of the Agency has the mandate to privately offer, allocate, or sell forfeited vehicles or any other seized assets to individuals. Vehicles and other assets forfeited as proceeds of drug crimes are strictly auctioned through public, transparent processes managed by appointed, government-registered auctioneers. Any legitimate auction exercise is widely publicized in national dailies and through the Agency’s official channels, strictly adhering to established legal and public procurement guidelines.

Members of the public are strongly urged to discountenance, ignore, and report any private letters, text messages, or social media offers claiming to originate from Barrister Shadrach Haruna or any other NDLEA official.

The NDLEA remains fully committed to transparency and integrity in all operations. If you are targeted by these scammers, protect yourself and report the incident immediately to the nearest NDLEA command or via our official communication channels.
