The era of free street parking—even those labelled ‘at owner’s risk’—is coming to an end in Lagos. LASPA General Manager Adebisi Adelabu unveiled the new fee structure during a high-level meeting with Ikeja LGA Chairman Akeem Dauda, signalling a major shift in the state’s urban management policy
LASPA Boss Adebisi Adelabu is taking the agency’s message to the grassroots, starting with a strategic briefing for Ikeja LGA leadership. The goal? A smarter, more organized Lagos. Adelabu revealed that the pilot phase for the new on-street parking scheme is slated for a 2026 rollout, with Ikeja at the forefront.
While parking was once the sole preserve of local governments, Adelabu explained that the 57 LGAs and LCDAs collectively ceded this responsibility to LASPA to ensure a unified, professional standard across the state. Beyond clearing the roads, the initiative promises a win-win: smoother traffic and fresh job opportunities for residents. Chairman Dauda welcomed the move, pledging his council’s cooperation but urging the agency to prioritize resident education to ensure a seamless transition
