Doctoral Milestone for Shippers’ Council Chief, Akutah: Charting a Sooth Course for Port Efficiency, Equitable Justice, and Effective Governance

In a momentous fusion of academic rigor and visionary governance, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Akutah Pius Ukeyima, Esq, MON, FCILT, PhD was formally conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in nternational Criminal Cooperation (Law) at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) during the University 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary held on Saturday April 11, 2026.

This scholarly milestone reinforces Dr. Akutah’s commitment to a knowledge-driven agenda, as he continues to spearhead critical port automation reforms and regulatory strategies aimed at optimizing efficiency within Nigeria’s evolving maritime and Blue Economy sectors.

”A journey seven years in the making,” Dr. Akutah told The Shipper News crew, characterizing the convocation as the ultimate reward for his dedication. Despite fulfilling his degree criteria back in 2024, the Shippers’ Council boss embraced the day’s official conferment as the powerful conclusion to his pursuit of a doctorate.

Dr. Akutah attributed his academic journey to a relentless passion for imparting knowledge across borders. “As a teacher of International Criminal Law, I have trained lawyers, prosecutors, and judges in different jurisdictions around the world. Pursuing a PhD is just a way forward for me towards the journey of what I love,” he stated, underscoring his transition from a seasoned international practitioner to a doctoral authority.

Beyond the courtroom and the ports, the seasoned prosecutor and maritime expert advocates for a culture of perpetual self-improvement. “It is very important for everyone because as long as you don’t stop living, you have to continue learning. So, for someone who wants to prepare himself for tomorrow’s leadership, you have to continue to educate yourself,” he noted, positioning continuous education as the compass for the next generation of global leaders.

As Dr. Akutah adds this academic laurel to his administrative portfolio, his example sends a vital message for public office holders and professionals alike: that leadership is most effective when continually refined by learning, and that the pursuit of knowledge remains a lifelong endeavour.

Keffi became a global crossroads of intellect and leadership as the university’s 25th-anniversary festivities played host to an array of eminent stakeholders and international guests.

”Sooth News” proudly congratulates Dr. Akutah Pius on his latest academic feat. As he bridges the gap between high-level scholarship and maritime leadership, we affirm that his doctoral insights will directly fuel more efficient port operations, equitable justice systems, and world-class governance.
