Championing a new era of accountability, the Nigeria Immigration Service has sidelined top officials at the Lagos-Seme border. The move follows serious extortion claims and signals a zero-tolerance policy toward professional misconduct
Responding to a wave of online reports, NIS spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi announced on Friday that the Service has sidelined key officers along the Lagos-Seme axis. The crackdown follows serious allegations of extortion that have surfaced on social media
In a move to restore institutional integrity, the NIS confirmed that CG Kemi Nandap has “temporarily relieved the Comptrollers in charge of the affected Commands of their duties” pending an official inquiry. Describing the allegations as “unacceptable” and a “direct violation of the core values, ethics, and operational standards of the Service,” Nandap signaled a zero-tolerance approach to corruption. The Service promised a rigorous investigation aimed at identifying every complicit officer to ensure “appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect.”
“The Service wishes to reassure the general public that it remains committed to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient services at all points of entry and exit,” the statement added.
“It will not condone any act that undermines public trust or tarnishes the integrity of the Service.”
Putting power back in the hands of the public, the NIS has urged Nigerians to report rogue officers via social media and its 24-hour contact centre. The Service noted it is rapidly strengthening internal oversight to ensure these reports lead to real accountability.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains resolute in its mission to serve with integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration,” Akinlabi added.
