The Former President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has passed on at the age of 82, (1942-2025) in London. The announcement was made on Sunday by the former Special Adviser to the late President, Malam Garba Shehu.
In a brief statement, Shehu confirmed that the former Head of State passed away in a clinic in London earlier in the afternoon.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. The family of the former president has announced the passing on of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” the statement read.
Sooth News gathered that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Vice President, Kashim Shettima and President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila to leave for the United Kingdom to accompany the late former President’s body to Nigeria for a burial right on Monday, 14th July, 2025 at his home town in Daura, Katsina State.
In a separate release signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu confirmed the death of his predecessor and explained that he has conversed with the former First Lady. Mrs. Aisha Buhari, while expressing condolence. The statement further disclosed that President has also directed National Flags to be flown at half-mast for 7 days across the Country in honor of the departed President. the statement reads;
”We honor his service. We reflect on his legacy and we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. As a mark of respect to our former leader, i have directed that all National Flags fly at half-staff across the Country for 7 days from today. I have also summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council session on Tuesday dedicated to his honor. The Federal Government will accord President Buhari full state honors befitting his towering contributions to our Country. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and may his life continue to inspire generations of Nigerians to serve with courage, conviction and selflessness.”
