End of the Road: More Than 150 Bandits Drown in Sokoto Boat Mishap
In a major blow to criminal elements in the Northwest, at least 150 suspected bandits reportedly drowned on Saturday after their boat capsized in the Sabon Gida area of Sabon Birni Local Government, Sokoto State.
Official police confirmation is still pending, but renowned security expert Zagazola Makama has verified the reports through multiple ground sources.
According to Makama, the incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 21, when a vessel carrying a large number of heavily armed men overturned while attempting to cross a local water body. The sudden capsize has reportedly led to a significant loss of life among the ranks of the insurgents, marking a major blow to their operations in the region.
Ground sources further disclosed that the bandits were travelling in a large, overcrowded convoy when the vessel suddenly capsized, plunging all occupants into the water. “Preliminary information suggests that many were unable to swim, resulting in heavy casualties,” a source revealed.
Initial reports indicate a total loss of life, with no survivors accounted for following the incident. If officially confirmed, the disaster is expected to deal a crippling blow to the criminal syndicates terrorizing the North-West region, significantly depleting their manpower and operational capacity.
