Bauchi metropolis came alive on Saturday, March 21, 2026, as residents and visitors thronged major streets to witness the colourful Sallah Durbar marking the end of Eid al-Fitr. The city was agog with richly adorned horsemen showcasing exceptional horsemanship, cultural displays and a vibrant array of traditional performances that reflected the enduring heritage of the Bauchi Emirate.

The grand procession, led by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, saw riders from various traditional households converge at the Government House to pay the customary Sallah homage to Governor Bala Mohammed. The Durbar, which commenced shortly after 10 a.m., featured a ceremonial reception where the governor commended the Emir, district heads and title holders for preserving the age-old tradition, describing it as a symbol of unity and mutual respect between the government and traditional institutions.

In his remarks, the Emir expressed appreciation to the governor for his administration’s consistent support to the traditional council, pledging continued cooperation for the progress of the state. The spectacle that followed saw a majestic parade of horsemen galloping past the VIP stand in synchronized formations, accompanied by rhythmic drumbeats, ceremonial gun salutes and loud cheers from an excited crowd.

The procession later moved through major roads across the city, drawing thousands of spectators—men, women and children—who lined the streets in celebration. A standout feature of this year’s event was the elegant four-horse carriage conveying the Emir, alongside other attractions including traditional performers, folk musicians, animal charmers and roller skaters, all adding colour and excitement to the festivities.

Many residents who spoke to our correspondent praised the improved organisation and overall success of the 2026 Durbar.
