Ramadan to Complete 30 Days: Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the Shawwal moon was not sighted this evening. This means the holy month continues for one more day, and the joyous celebration of Eid-el-Fitr will officially commence on Friday, March 20.
“The Crescent of month of Shawwal 1447 was NOT SIGHTED anywhere in the Kingdom today, subsequently the month of Ramadan will complete 30 days tomorrow and Eid Al Fitr will be on Friday,” Haramain, a Saudi-based online resource outfit, wrote on X.

On Tuesday, March 17, His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, called on the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to look out for the Shawwal 1447 AH crescent moon on Wednesday. This follows a month of spiritual devotion that began on February 17, during which Muslims worldwide observed the Ramadan fast—a period of dawn-to-dusk abstinence lasting 29 or 30 days.
Similarly, to mark the end of Ramadan, the Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday, March 19-20, 2026, as public holidays. This declaration paves the way for nationwide Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, honoring the successful completion of the fast.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, speaking through Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, has officially congratulated the Muslim Ummah on this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
The Minister’s message was one of reflection and unity, urging the faithful to carry the spiritual discipline of Ramadan into their daily lives. By calling for prayers for national peace and acts of kindness toward the vulnerable, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the administration’s focus on building a more unified and compassionate Nigeria.
