The Federal Ministry of Works has inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of the Bauchi–Gombe Federal Highway, assuring road users that the project will significantly improve safety and ease movement along the critical North-East transport corridor.
During a media inspection tour on Sunday at Kengere Village, the Director of Information and Public Affairs of the Ministry, Mohammed Ahmed, said the intervention was necessitated by the strategic importance of the road, which serves as a major link between Bauchi State and other states in the North-East.
Ahmed said although the Federal Government has awarded a contract for the dualisation of the Bauchi–Gombe road, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the rehabilitation of the existing single carriageway to reduce hardship for motorists pending the commencement of the larger project.
On his part, the Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi State, Engr. Bashiru Adamu, said the rehabilitation covers the stretch from Bauchi metropolis to Dindima Village noting that the road had suffered severe structural damage, with potholes and craters along the busy highway.
He said the level of deterioration made comprehensive rehabilitation unavoidable to restore the road’s structural integrity and ensure safe travel.
The Site Engineer of Triacta Construction Company, Engr. Joseph Samata, said the 35.4-kilometre Bauchi–Dindima project, valued at ₦39.9 billion, is expected to be completed before the end of 2026.
Comrade Umar Sa’idu, acting in his dual capacity as media team lead and Bauchi State Chairman of the NUJ, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its efforts in improving conditions for road users. Furthermore, he announced that the NUJ in Bauchi State would complement the Ministry of Works’ monitoring efforts by carrying out independent, routine inspections of the site.
As part of the tour, completed drainage structures and culverts in Konkyel and Suke villages along the Bauchi–Maiduguri Federal Highway were commissioned and handed over to the host communities.
Representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), who were part of the inspection team, commended the project managers for compliance with contractual and engineering standards.
