Major Crashes Trigger Massive Traffic Delays Across Ojota, Ikorodu, and Apapa.

Gridlock paralyzed the Ikorodu Road axis this morning, January 9, 2026, after a series of crashes blocked all thoroughfares—including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. Adding to the nightmare, a container fell on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge just past Ojota, triggering a traffic backlog that has reached a total standstill.

Sooth News reports that Ikorodu Road has been plunged into total gridlock following a major accident at Onipanu. An open-body articulated truck traveling inward from Anthony lost control and crossed the median, completely obstructing both sides of the highway. Laden with plywood and believed to be coming from the port, the vehicle has effectively sealed the corridor, compelling motorists to seek alternative routes.

Adding to Lagos’ traffic woes, an articulated truck carrying metal scrap overturned in Apapa today, January 9. The crash has paralyzed the primary exit route near the Leventis frontage. Motorists leaving the port are restricted to a single service lane toward Marine Beach. Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have yet to confirm the official causes of the early morning incidents
