Former Army Chief Tukur Buratai slams ₦1 billion defamation suit on retired Maj.Gen. Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi over “malicious” terrorism claims.
at the Kaduna State High Court over alleged statements linking him to terrorism.
Filed on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in the Kaduna Judicial Division, the suit alleges that Ali-Keffi systematically circulated falsehoods linking Tukur Buratai to terrorism financing and Boko Haram. The legal action further details how the defendant accused the former COAS of orchestrating the illegal release and concealment of high-profile terror suspects.
Representing Buratai, A.I. Aliyu and A.M. Hassan of Law Plus Consult contended that the statements—virally disseminated across Facebook, X, WhatsApp, and Instagram—triggered a global firestorm that severely compromised his reputation.
Buratai said the allegations are entirely false, noting that he has never been investigated, indicted, or convicted for terrorism or related offences. He described the claims as portraying him as corrupt, unpatriotic, and complicit in acts against Nigeria’s national security.
The former army chief is seeking an order compelling Ali-Keffi to retract the statements and issue a public apology on the same platforms where the claims appeared, including Sahara Reporters and at least two national newspapers.
In addition, Buratai is demanding N1 billion in general damages, a perpetual injunction preventing further publication of the statements, and coverage of all legal costs.
The writ directs Ali-Keffi to enter an appearance within 21 days of service; failing this, the court may proceed in his absence.
At the time of this report, no hearing date was scheduled, and Ali-Keffi had yet to file a response.
