Retired Deputy Commanders General of Narcotics (DCGNs) who previously served as NDLEA directors have formally congratulated Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) on his re-appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The veterans used the occasion to pledge continued, robust support for the national effort against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The meeting was announced in a statement released on Thursday, December 11, by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
However, the nine-member team, led by former Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, DCGN Sunday Nbona Joseph (Rtd.), praised Marwa’s transformative leadership. Joseph noted the NDLEA’s evolution into a globally respected enforcement body and credited Marwa’s commitment and hard work for the achievement.
While expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for the five-year tenure renewal, the delegation assured Marwa of their readiness to provide ongoing expertise, advice, and support to ensure sustained operational success.
“We ask God to give you longevity and more ability and capacity to record many more achievements,” Joseph stated during the visit, which concluded with the presentation of a congratulatory card.
Marwa, the NDLEA Chairman and CEO, responded by thanking the veterans for their gesture, acknowledging all well-wishers, present or absent.
The ‘pilot’ behind the NDLEA’s glaring track record of successes attributed his tenure renewal directly to institutional achievements and shared the credit generously.
“We are grateful to the president who deemed it fit to renew our tenure,” Marwa noted. “I’m grateful to you all for being part of the reason for the renewal.”
He stressed that high-level operational successes are a team effort:
“No CEO will do that alone. It’s all under commands which fall under your various directorates.”
Marwa reiterated his reliance on the management structure they helped build:
“I rely on the management team, which you have been, from the day I joined until when you left.
He also appreciates the team: ”I appreciate you also for all that you have contributed.” He also offered a candid assessment of the resistance his mission faces:
“Now, I’m not under any delusion that everyone is happy that I came back for a second time, not least the criminal elements.”
He concluded by highlighting the significant progress made since their retirement and assured the delegation that future successes are guaranteed, stating that “President Tinubu is giving NDLEA the full backing we need to achieve more.”
