Former FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has assumed office as the 21st President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria. He was inaugurated at a ceremony held on Thursday, November 27, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The ceremony featured the official swearing-in of the new Council Members. Following this, Dr. Oyeyemi unveiled his administration’s key strategic initiative, “Project 2027”.
Project 2027 is primarily focused on securing a formal Act of Parliament.
This legislative framework is intended to confer CILT Nigeria with the full authority to regulate professional standards across the logistics and transport sector.
The goal is to ensure national recognition of CILT qualifications and reinforce the Institute’s statutory influence.
The initiative, Oyeyemi stressed, will boost CILT’s national and global credibility, positioning the institute as Africa’s foremost logistics and transport leader.
Dr. Oyeyemi detailed eight strategic pillars guiding his 2025–2027 transformation agenda, which include membership growth, institutional reforms, innovation, governance, digital services, inclusivity, and international leadership.
He stressed that after 67 years, CILT Nigeria is poised for renewal, uniting stakeholders to build a modern, globally aligned institute grounded in credible advocacy and purposeful stewardship.
Government officials and industry dignitaries present at the event commended the new president’s vision.
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, lauded Dr. Oyeyemi as a visionary leader whose extensive contributions to logistics, transport, and road safety made him exceptionally qualified for the role.
Minister Oyetola specifically urged CILT Nigeria to foster close collaboration with the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to bridge existing gaps in professional standards, certification, and policy implementation across the sector.
The occasion was chaired by Babatunde Raji Fashola, the former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works and Housing, who underscored the necessity of embracing innovation like artificial intelligence and robotics within the logistics sector.
Fashola defined modern logistics as “moving value through speed, transparency, and standards,” urging Dr. Oyeyemi to strengthen collaboration, promote multimodal transport policies, and ensure the sector’s full contribution to national development.
Renowned Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, serving as the special guest of honor, applauded Oyeyemi’s emergence and expressed optimism that his tenure would usher in significant innovations.
In a similar vein, Prof. Kayode Oyesiku, a CILT Fellow, delivered the investiture lecture stressing that effective leadership must anchor on integrity, accountability, and astute resource management. He emphasized that future progress hinges on advocacy, strategic partnerships, training, and sustaining credibility among the membership base.
In her valedictory remarks, the outgoing President, Barr. (Mrs) Mfon Usoro, FCILT highlighted CILT Nigeria’s substantial growth to 2,021 active members. She proudly noted that Nigeria achieved territory status in 2014 and remains the only such CILT territory across Africa. Usoro detailed key achievements, including successful digitization, restructured annual conferences, and expanded collaborations, expressing full confidence that Oyeyemi’s leadership would consolidate these gains and drive the institute into a dynamic new era.
