Ebonyi Gov Puts Smiles on Corps Members, Raises Monthly Allowance to ₦30,000

A major welfare boost has hit the NYSC camp in Ebonyi, following Governor Francis Nwifuru’s approval of a ₦30,000 monthly stipend for all corps members serving in the state.

The landmark welfare package was unveiled on Friday during the official swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.

Delivering the executive address on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, reassured the new intake of the administration’s steadfast commitment to their maximum security and economic well-being. Describing Ebonyi as a highly hospitable, peaceful, and opportunity-rich state, Onyia urged the corps members to strategically leverage their service year for intensive personal development, cross-cultural integration, and impactful community building.

”This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia stated, charging the corps members to step up and contribute meaningfully to their primary assignments across host communities.

In her remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi State Government for its sustained partnership and strategic investment in youth development. However, she seized the opportunity to highlight critical infrastructural deficiencies facing the orientation facility at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.

Maidariya appealed directly for urgent state intervention to execute vital upgrades. Her specific requests included: Modernisation of the central camp kitchen, Construction of a standard dining facility, Establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre, Structural renovations to the camp’s perimeter fence and Comprehensive facility upgrades inside the multi-purpose hall.

Turning her attention to the new intake, she firmly emphasised the imperatives of discipline, active participation in camp programmes, and unyielding adherence to the scheme’s foundational values of patriotism, integrity, and selfless service. She further extended deep appreciation to camp officials, resource personnel, and collaborating security agencies for maintaining ironclad order and operational efficiency throughout the orientation period.

The high-profile swearing-in ceremony featured several key proceedings. Highpoints of the event included the formal administration and signing of the Oath of Allegiance by the newly minted corps members, high-octane tactical drills presented by the Man ‘O’ War unit alongside vibrant traditional cultural performances, and an official walkthrough and evaluation of ongoing infrastructure projects across the camp grounds.
