After five years of transformative leadership, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Kashere, Prof. Umaru A. Pate, is bowing out with a sense of accomplishment. “I’ve served, and I’m happy to be leaving,” he remarked, noting his deep fulfillment in advancing the institution’s mission during his tenure.
Speaking at a valedictory session in the University Council Chambers, on Wednesday, February 11, Professor Pate received resounding accolades from colleagues and staff. Management members took turns to laud his legacy of service, citing his “unwavering commitment” and the “lasting intellectual impact” he leaves behind at FUK.
A distinguished scholar, Prof. Pate served as the third Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Kashere (FUK) since its founding in 2010. The institution was established as part of a landmark educational initiative by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to expand academic access across Nigeria.
Prof. Pate’s address showcased a stewardship of impact, highlighting his success in modernizing the campus and elevating academic standards. Beyond physical growth, he was lauded for prioritizing staff well-being and achieving a “legal clean slate” by resolving several protracted court cases involving the university.
Attributing his success to a ‘united front,’ Prof. Pate lauded the Governing Council and the entire university community for their cooperation. He noted that the achievements of his administration were a testament to what can be accomplished through collaborative leadership and stakeholder dedication.
However, resounding accolades and emotional reflections took center stage as the university community bid farewell to Prof. Pate. Senior management hailed his tenure as a masterclass in visionary stewardship, noting that his unique ability to bridge divides has left the institution stronger, more stable, and more prestigious than ever before.
