From Uniform to ‘Korope’: Retired CSP Turns Mini-Bus Driver, Alleges Brutality by Former Colleagues in Lagos

Isiagu Joseph, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), has leveled serious allegations against a serving Inspector, claiming he was assaulted and humiliated for operating a commercial mini-bus (Korope) in Lagos. The retired senior officer describes a harrowing encounter where his former colleagues allegedly targeted him despite his years of service.

Recounting the ordeal, Joseph stated that the confrontation occurred on January 8, 2026, near the Alausa Secretariat. He alleges that the Inspector subjected him to a physical assault and verbal abuse, purportedly claiming that a retired CSP driving a ‘Korope’ was an ‘insult to the Force.

This was reportedly not an isolated encounter. According to the retired officer, the Inspector—whose identity is currently being verified—has a documented history of aggressive conduct. Joseph maintains that the individual has a track record of targeted misconduct, asserting that the officer had intercepted his vehicle and subjected him to verbal harassment on several previous occasions.

In an effort to de-escalate the tension, Joseph presented his official police credentials. However, the gesture was met with further hostility; the Inspector allegedly disregarded the retired CSP’s status and ordered subordinate officers to strip the license plates from his vehicle.

Joseph further alleged that the team escalated the encounter into a physical assault, forcibly dragging him from the bus and seizing his keys. While he has formally reported the incident to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, he lamented that the Inspector ‘has not been identified or sanctioned,’ leaving the retired officer without justice.

While issuing an urgent plea to police authorities, Joseph is demanding accountability and disciplinary action. He explained that with a pension insufficient to support his family, he was forced into the ‘Korope’ business as a ‘means of survival’—only to be met with brutality for his efforts to earn an honest living
