The Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, announces a new leadership chapter with the assumption of duty of AIG Ronke Nurat Okunade, fsi, as its 24th Assistant Inspector-General of Police. Formally taking the helm in Lagos, she succeeds AIG Chinedu Oko, psc, following a strategic deployment by IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. AIG Okunade is committed to advancing the Command’s mandate to secure Nigeria’s vital waterways through enhanced professionalism and operational vigor.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the Public Relations Officer for the Maritime Police Command, ASP Adebayo Rasheed Adesaya, anipr, announced that AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, has officially assumed leadership. A native of Ogbomosho North LGA, Oyo State, AIG Okunade holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Ibadan. Since enlisting as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992, she has built a distinguished career, beginning with her mandatory attachment at the Ondo State Police Command after training at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna.
However, with a distinguished career spanning over three decades, AIG Okunade has held pivotal operational, administrative, and investigative roles across Nigeria. Her extensive leadership includes tenures at the Force Provost Office and the Railway and Airport Commands, as well as several State Police Commands. Notably, she served as Commissioner of Police for the Police Special Fraud Unit and oversaw high-level investigations at the FCID Annex, Alagbon.
Prior to assuming her current role as AIG Maritime, AIG Okunade made history as the first woman to serve as Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna. Her leadership was defined by strategic institutional reforms and a commitment to workforce development, setting a new standard for the premier training facility.
AIG Okunade’s career is bolstered by extensive international training and her active membership in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Widely respected for her integrity and professional conduct, she embodies the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
