A group of 60 newly recruited staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have raised alarm over prolonged delays in their posting and onboarding since receiving offer letters on August 28, 2023.
Speaking on behalf of the affected staff in Bauchi, Emmanuel Linus Dabo said the recruits were issued provisional appointment letters and instructed to resign from their previous jobs as part of the documentation process, which they promptly did. He explained that the recruitment process, which began in April 2023, included interviews, aptitude tests, medical examinations, and submission of credentials, after which successful candidates collected and accepted their offer letters at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.
According to Dabo, communication from the Bank ceased afterward, leaving the recruits unemployed for nearly three years. He added that several reminder letters addressed to the CBN Governor in September 2023, November 2024, and January 2025 have received no response.
The affected staff appealed to the CBN Governor, President Bola Tinubu, and other relevant stakeholders to intervene, lamenting that economic hardship has taken a severe toll on them, including the inability to pay rent, medical bills, and school fees, with some reportedly battling depression.
