Traffic on the busy Ojuelegba Bridge in Lagos was halted on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, after a 40ft container truck overturned. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, stating that the loaded Mack truck fell while traveling inward toward the National Stadium in Surulere.
According to LASTMA spokesperson Taofiq Adebayo, the fallen container completely blocked the bridge, forcing emergency responders to divert all vehicular movement from Fadeyi and Onipan through the Ojuelegba service lane to connect with Funsho Williams Avenue.
Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), officially confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) this Wednesday.
According to Adebayo, the 40ft container completely obstructed traffic movement on the bridge, effectively cutting off access for other vehicles descending the Ojuelegba ramp. He noted that recovery efforts are immediately being deployed to clear the blockage and restore normal flow. ”No casualty was recorded.
“All vehicular movements from Fadeyi and Onipan have been diverted through the service lane at Ojuelegba to burst out to Barracks to connect Funso Williams Avenue,” he said.
Adebayo confirmed that LASTMA personnel, equipped with necessary recovery gear, were immediately deployed to the scene. These officials are actively coordinating emergency procedures to ensure the prompt and safe evacuation of the overturned truck.
He officially declared the Ojuelegba Bridge inward National Stadium temporarily closed to vehicular traffic pending the conclusion of these recovery efforts. Adebayo gave assurances that immediate updates would be communicated to the public as the situation progresses.
