Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Kano State House of Assembly lost two prominent members who died within an hour of each other.
The deceased lawmakers were:
Hon. Aminu Sa’adu (Aminu Ungogo): Represented the Ungogo Constituency and served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation.
He reportedly collapsed at the Assembly complex after a brief illness
and was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to the hospital.
However, Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji: Represented the Kano Municipal Constituency. According to official reports, he passed away barely an hour after news emerged regarding the death of his colleague, Hon. Aminu Sa’adu.
The deaths were officially confirmed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Legislative leaders, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and the Speaker of the Kano Assembly, Jibril Falgore, have described the event as an “irreparable loss” and a tragedy for the state’s political leadership.
Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president wrote on his X handle :
“I mourn the passing of two members of the Kano State House of Assembly who died today,”
“The deceased lawmakers are Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, who represented Ungogo Constituency, and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Constituency. My heartfelt condolences go to their families, their constituents and the Kano state government.”
In a statement released by the Speaker of the House, Jibril Falgore, through his chief press secretary (CPS), Kamaluddeen Shawai, condoled with the families and constituents of Ungogo, describing his death as a huge loss at a critical time for the state.
The late Hon. Ungogo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement reads.
“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most.”
