All 38 worshippers abducted from Eruku, Kwara State, have been successfully rescued and reunited with their families. They arrived back in the community around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, following their release and medical attention in Ilorin.
The Ekiti Local Government Council has announced the safe return of all abducted individuals after a successful rescue operation.
In a press statement issued by Prince Dada Sunday, chief press secretary to the Council Chairman, attributed the success to a coordinated effort involving President Bola Tinubu, Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
“The abductees have been reunited with their families,” Sunday said.
The rescued worshippers have been handed over to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Honourable Awelewa Olawale Gabriel. The handover took place in Ilorin, facilitated by Governor AbdulRasaq.
However, the Chief Press Secretary Sunday called the ceremony “a testament to the tireless efforts of the government and security agencies involved in the rescue mission.”
Council Chairman Awelewa followed this by extending heartfelt appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRasaq, the National Security Adviser, and all security agencies for their successful efforts.
Chairman Awelewa singled out President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRasaq for their prompt response to the attack, which he said led to the swift rescue of the abductees.
“We appreciate the comprehensive medical care and provisions given to the abductees after their rescue,” Awelewa said.
He assured residents of the Ekiti Local Government Area that his administration would continue to prioritize their safety and security.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the lives and property of our people are protected through a robust security network across the 10 wards.”

echoed Awelewa’s gratitude, thanking everyone involved in the rescue effort. He noted that the return of the worshippers had brought relief and joy to the community, describing their safe return as a testament to the power of collective efforts in ensuring citizen safety and well-being.
