Bandits kidnap electoral commissioner, ex-SUBEB chair, 30 others in Niger”

Bandits have reportedly abducted many passengers travelling along the Zugurma-Ibbi–New Bussa Road near Ibbi National Park, in Niger state.

The bandits attacked scores of motorists and abducted passengers, including traders who were returning from the market.

More than 30 people were reportedly kidnapped, including Alhassan Bawa Niworo, former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and Ahmed Mohammed, a commissioner of Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC).

Niger state police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. He said police officers are working towards the safe release of the abducted passengers.

The latest incident heightens the recent attacks by bandits in communities in the state and other neighbouring state, Kwara.
